Visit to the "Aurisina Caves"

We inform you that the Yacht Club has organized a guided tour of the "Cava Romana" of Aurisina Cave for Sunday, May 4, 2025. The tour of the Quarry will be scenic, with an easily accessible route, which allows you to descend to the heart of the Quarry, taking place on asphalt or dirt roads with a maximum difference in height of about 90 meters.
Members are invited to come dressed appropriately for the visit, with closed shoes with non-slip soles; it is recommended to bring sunglasses or a hat in case it is a particularly sunny day and a small supply of water.
The visit will be an immersion in the past, modern and current history of karst stone extraction, with elements of geology, history and ethnography, being accompanied by a naturalistic guide from Estplore and the designer and safety manager of the Roman Quarry.
Available places are limited to a maximum of 25 participants, who must meet at the "Cava Romana" square by 10.00 am on the morning of the visit.
The cost may vary from 20 to 25 euros based on the number of members participating.
The visit to the "Cava Romana" will leave visitors fascinated by its scenographic impact accompanied by its historical importance and the value it has brought to Friuli Venezia Giulia, as it has also been the scene of cultural events and artistic performances of various nature and genre. A
The visit will be followed by a convivial lunch; the menu is still to be agreed with the restaurant selected by us, but we will not fail to update you on the list of dishes available before the date of the visit. Members who wish to participate in the initiative are asked to book by Saturday 26 April.
The Yacht Club of Portopiccolo would like to thank everyone who participated with interest in the guided tour of the Roman Quarry of Aurisina Cave, which took place on the morning of May 4, 2025. This was followed by a convivial lunch at the 'Bibc Wine & Holiday Locanda.'
The quarry tour was a great success, captivating the audience with the impressive rock faces of the Karst landscape and the skill of the two guides, who explained the history of the quarry and the various techniques used in working the Aurisina stone.
